Dr. Guynup is an award-winning VR artist, academic author, and innovative teacher.  As an artist in the 1990’s, he explored storytelling with shape changing avatars and used poetry as a tool to unpack the design language of virtual space. As a professional, he created early MMO games with Ars Electronica winner Andy Best’s Meet Factory. At GRA Interactive, he built multimillion dollar training software for CSX Rail, Georgia Pacific, UPS, and others. An online game design teacher since 2006, his bridging of VR, poetry, and teaching happened when chairing the Web3D Art Gallery at SIGGRAPH 2010. There he saw an opportunity and created a class where online students crafted virtual poetry inside multiuser 3D worlds. The class would become a free summer mentorship / internship and be shared with students from Miami University, Columbia Teachers College, The University of Moscow-Idaho, The University of Baltimore and others throughout the following years. After another successful run with a new platform, FrameVR, the virtual art and design class is being added to the curriculum at Southern New Hampshire University.
